Honors Outdoors: Bison at Paynes Prairie

Event details Date: Thursday, September 24, 2026 Time: 8:30 AM Location: Paynes Prairie Type: Campus Event About this event Ever wanted to see actual, real-life bison roaming around North Central Florida? Turns out you don't have to go to Yellowstone — Paynes Prairie has our very own herd, and they're just a short hike away! Join Tyler White next Thursday at 8:30am for a morning stroll through Paynes Prairie in search of Florida's finest bison. We will meet at the Bolen Bluff trailhead (29.5569, -82.3297) and head out on a 3-mile round trip through the prairie with flat, easy walking, great morning light, and (hopefully) some bison sightings along the way. Plan for about an hour on the trail. Bring water, wear good shoes, and come ready to see something you didn't expect to find in Gainesville.
