EduHookup Privacy Policy
This Policy explains the categories of information EduHookup may collect, how that information may be used, when it may be reviewed or shared, and the choices available to users.
Use only information you are comfortable providing
Public posts, profiles, images, usernames, college affiliations, and other public-facing content may be viewed, copied, shared, indexed, or saved by other people. Do not place sensitive personal information in a public post.
Information you provide
EduHookup may collect information you submit when creating or updating an account, verifying an academic email address, creating posts or listings, uploading images, sending messages, applying for opportunities, contacting support, requesting a school, or submitting a report.
This may include your name, username, email address, school, city, state, profile details, age or date-of-birth information, post content, messages, uploaded files, application details, support messages, and report evidence.
Information collected through use
EduHookup may collect technical and usage information such as IP address, browser and device information, operating system, user agent, pages viewed, referring pages, timestamps, approximate location derived from technical information, session activity, security events, and interactions with platform features.
Cookies, session storage, local storage, and similar technologies may be used for authentication, preferences, security, spam prevention, analytics, and platform operation.
How information may be used
Information may be used to operate and secure EduHookup, authenticate users, verify academic email addresses, display relevant campus content, process posts and listings, provide messaging, respond to support, detect fraud and spam, investigate reports, enforce rules, improve features, and comply with legal obligations.
Public content
Posts, listings, usernames, profile information, college information, images, events, tutor or employer information, and other content designated as public may be visible to registered users, visitors, search engines, and third-party services.
Removing content from EduHookup does not guarantee that copies previously saved, cached, indexed, quoted, or shared by others will disappear.
Private messages and reports
Private messages are not intended for routine browsing by moderators or staff. They may be processed as necessary to deliver the messaging service and maintain platform security.
When a message is reported, relevant message content, surrounding conversation context, account information, and technical records may be reviewed to investigate the report, enforce platform rules, protect users, or comply with legal obligations.
Users should not submit information in messages that they would be unable to tolerate being reviewed during a legitimate safety investigation.
Contact forms and support
Contact and school-request submissions may include your name, email, selected topic, message, school information, page URL, IP address, user agent, timestamps, and anti-spam or security information.
This information may be used to respond, investigate a concern, prevent repeated spam, maintain records, and improve support.
Moderation and safety information
Reports, moderation decisions, warnings, blocks, account restrictions, suspected fraud, suspected exploitation, and related evidence may be retained and reviewed to enforce policies, prevent repeat abuse, handle appeals, protect users, and comply with legal obligations.
Trusted campus moderators, when introduced, should receive only the information reasonably needed to manage their assigned community. Platform staff would retain authority over sensitive reports, account enforcement, appeals, exploitation, trafficking, and legal matters.
Service providers and integrations
EduHookup may use hosting providers, email delivery services, security services, analytics tools, mapping or location services, content moderation services, and other vendors that process information to provide services to EduHookup.
These providers may receive information reasonably necessary to perform their services and are subject to their own terms, privacy practices, and contractual obligations.
Legal, safety, and business disclosures
Information may be preserved or disclosed when reasonably believed necessary to comply with law or valid legal process, enforce platform rules, investigate fraud or abuse, protect rights and safety, address an emergency, or complete a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of platform assets.
EduHookup does not sell personal information to advertisers in exchange for money. This statement should be updated if the platform's practices change or if applicable law defines sale or sharing more broadly.
Data retention
Information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the platform, maintain accounts, complete transactions or communications, resolve disputes, investigate reports, prevent fraud, enforce agreements, maintain backups, and comply with legal obligations.
Retention periods may differ depending on the type of information and the reason it is retained.
Security
EduHookup uses administrative, technical, and organizational measures intended to protect information. No website, database, transmission method, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Users are responsible for protecting their passwords, devices, email accounts, and authentication information.
Nearby map, location, and recent movement
EduHookup's Nearby map is an optional, account-only feature. The feature uses location information only when you allow browser or device location access and use Nearby. EduHookup may temporarily process and store precise device coordinates to calculate proximity and provide map features, but other users are shown an approximate, shifted location rather than your raw coordinates.
Map visibility is opt-in. When you choose to go visible, your presence is designed to expire after about 60 minutes unless it is refreshed while you continue using Nearby. You can also go invisible at any time. Nearby users may see your chosen map mode, approximate distance or position, status text, profile information, and when your location was last updated.
Recent movement sharing is optional and off by default. If you turn it on, recent location points may be stored for up to about four hours and may be shown as an approximate movement trail only to users who are already able to interact with you in the applicable map context. Turning off visibility removes the current Nearby presence and associated recent movement history for that session.
Blocking and reporting tools apply to Nearby interactions. Location information can be delayed, inaccurate, unavailable, intentionally approximate, or affected by device and network conditions. Do not rely on Nearby as an emergency, safety, tracking, or verification service.
EduHookup also provides a public informational page describing Nearby. Viewing that public page does not by itself activate the live map, make you visible, or cause EduHookup to request or store your precise device location. The live Nearby map and location-sharing functions remain limited to eligible logged-in users.
Push notifications, message reminders, and job alerts
If you enable browser push notifications or other alert features, EduHookup may store a push-subscription identifier or endpoint and related browser or device information reasonably necessary to send the notification. Browser or operating-system permission settings control whether push notifications can be displayed on your device.
To provide unread-message reminders, EduHookup may process whether your account currently has unread messages, reminder-state records, and timestamps showing when reminder checks or sends occurred. The reminder itself may use generic wording rather than expose private message content in the notification.
If you create a job or internship alert, EduHookup may store the search criteria you choose, such as keywords, category, employment type, workplace type, experience level, school, state, location, radius, and similar filters, together with timestamps used to track when the alert was checked or last sent.
EduHookup may also process delivery status, failure information, notification preferences, and related technical metadata as needed to operate, troubleshoot, prevent abuse of, and improve these features.
Your choices
Depending on available account features and applicable law, you may be able to update profile information, edit or delete posts, manage messages, block users, change communication preferences, request account assistance, or ask questions about personal information.
Some information may remain in backups, safety records, moderation records, transaction records, or legal records after an account or post is removed.
Adults-only service
EduHookup is intended only for users who are at least 18 years old. The platform is not directed to children or minors. If EduHookup reasonably believes an account belongs to someone under 18, the account may be restricted or removed and related information may be handled as necessary for safety and compliance.
Changes to this Policy
EduHookup may update this Privacy Policy as features, practices, vendors, and legal requirements change. Updated versions will be posted on this page.
