Event details Date: Wednesday, November 4, 2026 Time: 11:45 AM Location: Grinter Hall, 471 Type: Exhibits / Arts Tags: Open to the Public About this event Zach's research examines how different groups of South African combatants during the Apartheid era experienced mental trauma, with a particular focus on how race, class, and ideas about masculinity shaped those experiences. It centers especially on members of local Self-Defense Units (SDUs), whose voices have been largely overlooked in historical narratives. Using oral histories and archival research, the project aims to recover these missing perspectives and explain why SDU veterans have been excluded from national memory.
