About this event
Join us for Roski Talks with jill moniz on September 8 at 7 p.m. at the Roski Graduate Building.
jill moniz (BA, MA, PhD) organizes ideas for Transformative Arts, a nonprofit organization she cofounded in 2005, and for artists and communities worldwide, collaborating to reclaim commons as sites for diasporic knowledges, stories and imagery. Recognized as a curator focused on fugitivity, moniz has mounted major exhibitions for the California African American Museum, the Getty Museum and Craft Contemporary, among others and has served as adjunct faculty in the Department of Art and Architecture at UCLA. She participates in artist lectures and conversations, contributes essays to monographs and other publications, leads participatory art programs and projects and researches art as cultural ritual in museums globally. Currently she leads large-scale public art initiatives in the US and supports the public praxis of Évora NAU by expanding the impact of the Kilombo collective in Portuguese communities and universities. moniz holds a doctorate in cultural anthropology from Indiana University (2003), but her craft was learned from her mother and supported by radical women and men from around the globe.
